ISTANBUL, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Turkish counter-terrorism police detained 11 foreign nationals with suspected links to the Islamic State and al-Qaida in Istanbul on Thursday, local media reported.
Police launched simultaneous operations at several addresses after identifying the suspects' contacts with members of the two groups in conflict zones, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency.
Authorities said that the suspects had allegedly posted content praising terrorist organizations on social media and were assessed as capable of carrying out attacks targeting the country.
During the raids, police seized a knife, ammunition and numerous digital materials. The nationalities of the suspects have not been revealed.
Türkiye designated the Islamic State as a terrorist organization in 2013 and has since faced repeated attacks claimed by or linked to the group. ■
