CANBERRA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- A teenage girl has been arrested after a police officer was allegedly stabbed in Australia's Northern Territory (NT) on Tuesday.

The NT police force said in a statement on Wednesday that officers were called to reports that a 14-year-old girl had assaulted a security guard and damaged items inside a shopping center in the capital city of Darwin shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The girl was tracked by CCTV and found by police in the company of a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl.

As officers approached the group, the 14-year-old girl allegedly produced a kitchen knife and stabbed one officer in the upper arm and chest before she was tased and arrested.

The police officer was treated by ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

NT Police Commissioner Martin Dole said the attack was unacceptable.

"This was a serious incident, and I'm relieved the officer's injuries are not life-threatening," he said.

The 16-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl were subsequently arrested without incident at a residential complex. ■
