ISTANBUL, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Five students were injured in a shooting outside a high school in Türkiye's western province of Manisa on Tuesday, local media reported.
The incident took place in front of Inci Uzmez Anatolian Technical High School in the Turgutlu district at around 8 a.m. local time (0500 GMT). A suspect opened fire indiscriminately outside the school building for an unknown reason, Sozcu TV reported in a live broadcast.
Police launched efforts to apprehend the assailant, who fled the scene on foot, it added.
NTV broadcaster said one of the injured students was in critical condition.
Following reports of the incident, large numbers of police officers and medical teams were immediately dispatched to the area.
Upon hearing about the shooting, parents flocked to the school. Scuffles broke out between parents attempting to enter the premises and law enforcement officers who had secured the perimeter, NTV added. ■
