ISTANBUL, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Major Turkish airlines, including Turkish Airlines, AJet, and Pegasus, have suspended their flights to Iran following the imposition of new U.S. sanctions targeting the Iranian aviation sector, local media reported on Tuesday.
Turkish Airlines and budget carrier AJet have removed all scheduled flights to Iranian destinations from their booking systems through March 2027, while Pegasus Airlines has also removed Iranian destinations from its reservation platform, according to Ekonomim, an online financial news outlet.
A search on the Turkish Airlines website for flights to Iranian cities currently returns an automated message saying, "There are no flights on the date and route you selected, or all our flights are full."
The suspensions followed tightened U.S. secondary sanctions affecting aircraft operations involving American-made components, including Boeing and certain Airbus aircraft, Ekonomim reported.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Treasury Department announced new sanctions targeting Iran's aviation sector, suspending authorizations that allowed non-U.S. airlines to fly U.S.-origin or U.S.-controlled commercial aircraft into Iran. ■
