ISLAMABAD, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Two policemen providing security to a polio vaccination team were killed in a terror attack in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the Kali Jamalabad area of Nushki district, where the attackers targeted the policemen deployed to protect the polio team, according to the local police.
Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the assailants.
Balochistan Special Assistant for Home Affairs Babar Yousafzai said the terrorists are enemies of peace in Balochistan and the future of its children.
"Those who target polio teams are, in fact, seeking to deprive the children of Balochistan of their right to health and a secure future," he said.
Pakistan launched a nationwide polio vaccination campaign on Sept. 21, which will continue through Sept. 27, as part of efforts to protect children from the crippling disease. ■
