RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Uruguayan manager Paulo Pezzolano has parted ways with Internacional as the club battles to avoid relegation to Brazil's Serie B.
The announcement followed a 1-0 loss at Sao Paulo on Saturday, a result that left the Porto Alegre-based side 18th in the 20-team Serie A standings with 10 matchdays remaining.
The 43-year-old will be replaced on an interim basis by assistant coach Pablo Fernandez, Internacional said.
Pezzolano oversaw 17 wins, 12 draws and 14 losses after replacing Abel Braga in January.
Internacional's next match will be a home fixture against Corinthians after the FIFA international window on October 7. ■
