KABUL, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority has signed three memorandums of understanding with leading domestic and international partners to provide assistance to vulnerable communities across six provinces, the authority said on Monday.
The agreements, valued at more than 7.3 million U.S. dollars, will provide cash assistance to 22,092 vulnerable families in the northern provinces of Baghlan, Kunduz, Balkh and Jawzjan, as well as the western provinces of Herat and Badghis, according to the authority.
Additionally, under the deals, a total of 173,355 metric tons of food commodities will also be distributed to families in need in the above-mentioned provinces, the authority said.
The Afghan government has renewed its appeal for greater investment by domestic and international organizations, saying increased support is needed to help alleviate economic pressures and expand sustainable employment opportunities. ■
