DHAKA, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed, and 13 others were injured after gas cylinders exploded and triggered a devastating fire involving several covered vans parked inside a factory compound in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Sunday night.
Mohammad Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, told journalists that "five bodies were recovered from the covered vans and another victim died at a nearby shop."
He added that 14 people were initially injured, one of whom later died, leaving 13 injured.
According to the official, the explosion occurred at about 7:00 p.m. local time while the cylinders were being unloaded from a covered van.
The fire was brought under control at about 8:00 p.m. local time and fully extinguished by around 10:00 p.m., he said.
Rescue operations ended at 11:42 p.m. local time, he added. ■
