ACCRA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohammed Kudus has withdrawn from Ghana's upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Cote d'Ivoire and The Gambia, local media reported on Sunday.
Kudus was initially named in Carlos Queiroz's 24-man squad after returning to the national team following a seven-month injury layoff that ruled him out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to reports, Kudus wants to focus on completing his recovery at Tottenham and regaining full fitness and form before returning to international action.
His decision comes just days after he made his first start for Tottenham since returning from injury in the League Cup and then came off the bench to register an assist against Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The Ghana Football Association, together with Queiroz, is expected to name a replacement in the coming days.
Ghana is scheduled to face Cote d'Ivoire on September 24 before hosting The Gambia five days later. It will also face Morocco in an international friendly on October 4. ■
