ISLAMABAD, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said Monday that his country remained firmly committed to international peace and security and supported a strong, effective and inclusive multilateral system.
In a message on the International Day of Peace, Zardari said lasting peace could only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy, justice and full respect for international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
He said Pakistan supported the peaceful settlement of disputes and a comprehensive approach to conflict prevention and resolution based on dialogue, diplomacy and collective action.
The president highlighted the contribution of Pakistani peacekeepers serving in UN missions worldwide, saying their service reflected the country's enduring commitment to international peace.
Zardari also highlighted Pakistan's diplomatic efforts to help end the conflict between Iran and the United States, saying the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding had opened a path toward de-escalation and a negotiated settlement.
He called on the international community to uphold the UN Charter, respect international law and promote just and durable resolutions of disputes through peaceful means.
"Pakistan stands ready as a trusted partner in this collective endeavor for a more peaceful and prosperous world," he added. ■
