RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Vasco da Gama moved out of the Brazilian Serie A relegation zone on Saturday by cruising to a 5-0 home win over Coritiba.
Facundo Colidio and Bruno Duarte scored first-half goals at Sao Januario as Coritiba struggled for meaningful possession in its attacking third.
The hosts continued to dominate after the interval, with Alan Lescano converting a penalty and Andres Gomez and Ramon Rique further extending the lead in the last half-hour.
Vasco is now 16th in the 20-team standings, having won three of its past four league matches, seven points behind ninth-placed Coritiba.
In other Brazilian top-flight fixtures on Saturday, Mirassol won 2-0 at home to Botafogo, Sao Paulo edged to a 1-0 home win over Internacional, Santos prevailed 2-1 at Remo, and Atletico Mineiro was held to a 1-1 home draw by Chapecoense. ■
