NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Macao, China claimed its first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games on Sunday as Kuong Chi Hin and his training partner Song Chi Kuan had a 1-2 finish in the men's changquan event.
Kuong, competing in his second Asian Games, scored 9.723 points, while Song took silver with 9.720.
"This medal means a lot to me. It's my first time standing on the top podium and I'm really happy and proud of myself," Kuong said.
The 22-year-old said he was delighted to share the podium with Song, his senior training partner from the same coaching group.
"We are the first combination in Macao's history to take first and second place. It has very important historical significance," said Song, who has been practicing wushu for nearly two decades.
Song had arrived at the Asian Games with an ankle injury that had kept him out of full training for three weeks. He managed to complete his full routine only in the week leading up to the competition.
"I definitely wanted the gold medal today, but being able to finish the competition is already very good," he said. "I hope to go further and get the gold next time."
Kuong finished 12th at his first Asian Games in Hangzhou three years ago.
"Through three years of accumulation, I've gained a lot of experience. Before the competition, my goal was just not to make mistakes and to show my own style," he said.
Prior to Aichi-Nagoya 2026, all of Macao, China's three gold medals at the Asian Games came from wushu. ■
