CHANGCHUN, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Organizers of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade unveiled a competition program on Friday featuring 97 events across 12 sports, with sport-specific competition committees being established.
Under the program, Changchun 2027 will feature 33 events across five ice sports and 59 events across six snow sports, plus five events in the newly added cross-country running competition.
The first gold medal is expected to be awarded in the women's freeski slopestyle at noon on January 16, while the final gold medal is expected to be decided in the women's curling on the afternoon of January 25.
He Yong, executive deputy director of the Sports Competition Department, said the sport-specific competition committees, nine in Changchun and six in Jilin, will be responsible for competition organization, venue management and support services.
The Changchun competition zone will host five ice sports and four snow sports, comprising 61 events in total, while the Jilin competition zone will stage 36 events across four snow sports. Both zones will host freestyle and freeski events.
The Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade will open on January 15 and close on January 25, with competitions scheduled over 14 days. Preliminary and qualifying competitions in curling, ice hockey, freestyle and freeski, and snowboard will be held before the opening ceremony. ■
