NEW DELHI, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Saturday that developing nations are often unfairly blamed for carbon emissions, highlighting that developed countries emit about six times more carbon per capita than India.
The statement was made by Modi while inaugurating the international conference on the Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics organized by the National Green Tribunal, India's top environmental court, in New Delhi.
"Often, the responsibility for carbon emissions has been wrongly placed on developing countries. While the historical truth is that even today, India's contribution to per capita carbon emissions is less than half of the global average," Modi said.
The two-day event is being attended by environmental experts, Supreme Court judges, judges from lower courts, legal experts and senior government officials.
Officials said the conference will provide a platform to exchange judicial approaches, scientific knowledge, environmental governance practices and institutional experiences. ■
