BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 jolted Kermadec Islands region at 2318 GMT on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 94.1 km, was initially determined to be at 27.86 degrees south latitude and 177.23 degrees west longitude. ■
