BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.94 percent to 3,911.87 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.72 percent higher at 13,640.87 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 2.08 trillion yuan (about 308.05 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.82 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in semiconductors and memory chips sectors were among the top gainers, while those related to automakers, coal mining and processing, and soybeans led the declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.25 percent to close at 3,372.68 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 3.23 percent higher at 1,948.21 points on Friday. ■
