ISLAMABAD, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Ten terrorists and six soldiers were killed in separate clashes in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province over the last 72 hours, the country's military said Thursday.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan district following reports of militant presence.
Six militants were killed after an intense exchange of fire, the ISPR said.
In a separate encounter in Hangu district of the province, security forces killed four more militants, the ISPR statement said.
The military said six soldiers also lost their lives when an improvised explosive device targeted a security forces convoy in Kurram district of the province.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants killed during the operations, said the ISPR, adding the terrorists were involved in terror activities in the area.
The military said the campaign to eliminate terrorism would continue, reaffirming the security forces' commitment to safeguarding the country. ■
