MACAO, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Macao Union Hospital marked its second anniversary with a health care forum in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Wednesday.
Parallel sessions covered pancreatic diseases, rare diseases, nursing and other medical topics. The hospital also announced the establishment of a roster of invited experts at the opening ceremony.
The center, also known as the Islands Healthcare Complex -- Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, is jointly operated by the SAR government and the Beijing hospital.
O Lam, the SAR's secretary for social affairs and culture, described the center as a key health care cooperation project under "one country, two systems" and a major initiative to improve residents' well-being.
She called on the hospital to improve care for patients with complex and critical conditions, strengthen training for local medical professionals and expand international medical services.
Zhang Shuyang, president of Peking Union Medical College Hospital in Beijing, said the Macao hospital should serve local residents while helping China's health care sector engage with the wider world.
The hospital officially opened in September 2024 and is currently Macao's largest medical complex. ■
