MOSCOW, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- A Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, sending the Progress MS-35 cargo spacecraft into orbit, the Russian state space corporation Roscosmos said.
The spacecraft lifted off at 4:34 p.m. Moscow time (1334 GMT) from Baikonur's Launch Pad 31 and is delivering over 2.4 metric tonnes of supplies to the International Space Station, including fuel, food, water, oxygen, maintenance and sanitation equipment, medicines and scientific equipment.
As part of the Teledroid experiment, cosmonauts will study the possibility of using a remotely controlled anthropomorphic robot to support their activities in open space during orbital flights, Roscosmos said.
For the experiment, the spacecraft will deliver a so-called cosmonaut workstation, or exoskeleton, which will enable a cosmonaut to control the robot remotely.
The Teledroid anthropomorphic robot itself will be delivered aboard the next cargo spacecraft, according to Roscosmos. ■
