CAIRO, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Wednesday expressed rejection of any attempts to alter the geographic and demographic reality in the Palestinian territories, stressing that confronting such moves is an Arab and international responsibility.
Fahmy's remarks came during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, where the two discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the political, humanitarian and security challenges facing the Palestinian cause, the Arab League said in a statement.
The Arab League chief stressed the importance of mobilizing efforts "to halt Israeli government plans to annex the West Bank through intensified settlement activity, displacement, land seizure, and the siege and isolation of Palestinian cities."
He said confronting such plans is also a duty for all supporters of the two-state solution.
Fahmy reaffirmed "the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Arab League," stressing the need to work earnestly toward a final and sustainable settlement of the Palestinian issue in all its aspects.
During the meeting, Abbas briefed Fahmy on the Palestinian leadership's priorities and discussed ways to build on international public support for the Palestinian cause. ■
