TEHRAN, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- A top Iranian security official on Wednesday reiterated Tehran's deep-seated distrust of the United States, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei made the remarks in a meeting with Bafel Jalal Talabani, leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, a group based in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
Rezaei said, "We in no way trust the United States. They must take practical actions and gain our trust."
He also highlighted the necessity to ensure security along the border between Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan region and deal with the "terrorist" anti-Iran groups based in the Kurdistan region, warning of Israel's movements there.
Earlier in the day, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a meeting with Talabani, cautioned about foreign attempts aimed at sowing discord and creating conflict in the West Asia region, according to a statement published on the website of his office.
Pezeshkian stressed the need for the promotion of intraregional cooperation and dialogue to eliminate grounds for instability and differences, and voiced Iran's readiness to resolve existing issues with neighboring countries through dialogue and engagement.
He underlined that at the same time, Iran expects all parties to remain committed to the principle of good neighborliness and refrain from excessive demands and inappropriate behaviors.
In his meeting with Rezaei, Talabani highlighted the necessity to ensure security along the shared border and solve the issue pertaining to the anti-Iran groups based in border areas, according to Tasnim.
He also assured the Iranian president of the Iraqi Kurdistan region's commitment to ensuring the security of Iran and the shared border by forcing "counter-revolutionary" groups active in border areas to leave those regions, according to the website of Pezeshkian's office. ■
