NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- A group of Chinese delegation members, including several national teams, arrived in Nagoya on Wednesday, with some athletes already setting their sights on gold at the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The Games, which run from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4, will see China field 815 athletes, including 36 Olympic champions, across 38 sports and 369 events.
"I'm excited. The whole team is well-prepared. Many Chinese compatriots in Japan came to the airport to welcome us," gymnast Zhang Boheng said after landing.
"Our biggest opponent is ourselves. Gymnastics is about self-expression and pushing your own limits," said Zhang, adding that China's men's gymnastics team is targeting gold in the team, all-around, rings and parallel bars events.
Women's doubles badminton player Jia Yifan, competing at her third Asian Games, also expressed her excitement at the airport.
"I feel a strong sense of unity within the delegation, with so many Chinese teams and athletes here," she said.
Jia noted that China's women's team took silver in the team event at the previous two Asian Games and said the squad is united in its bid for gold.
"Previously we pursued both team and individual titles, but the long competition schedule is a big test. Our goal is clearer now, and we're devoting all our energy into the women's team event," Jia said.
China has topped the Asian Games gold medal table at 11 consecutive editions since 1982. ■
