CHONGQING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Experts from home and abroad gathered on Tuesday in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality for the 2026 Yangtze River Civilization Forum, sharing insights on enhancing exchanges and mutual learning among the world's great river civilizations.
Themed "Bridging Rivers and Seas, Sharing Wisdom of Civilizations," the forum features discussions among scholars, and the launch of a series of books that collect more than 500 Chinese and foreign-language documents written by Chinese and foreign experts during their travels and field investigations along the upper section of the Yangtze River flowing through the Sichuan Basin and the Three Gorges region.
The documents cover a wide range of topics including geology, hydrology, transportation, economy, local customs, and environment.
Zou Fudu, vice president of Southwest University, said the compilation reflects the diverse narratives found in Chinese and foreign records about the route, and will help promote dialogue and mutual learning among civilizations.
During the forum, scholars offered in-depth perspectives on cultural heritage preservation and cultural exchange.
Li Guoqiang, from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, called for building international academic platforms, advancing comparative studies, promoting joint archaeological excavations and exchanges in heritage conservation technology, and facilitating mutual learning among the world's great river civilizations. ■
