ASTANA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan plans to commission at least 8.4 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2035 under its power sector development plan, the country's Ministry of Energy said Wednesday.
Kazakhstan currently operates 170 renewable energy facilities with a combined installed capacity of about 3.8 GW, Vice Minister of Energy Sanzhar Zharkeshov said on the sidelines of the third Regional Central Asian and European Decarbonization Forum in Astana.
To reach its targets of a 15-percent renewable energy share by 2030 and a 50-percent share of alternative and low-carbon energy by 2050, Kazakhstan will continue to hold annual renewable energy auctions and implement major projects with strategic investors, Zharkeshov added. ■
