KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's tourism industry generated 323 billion ringgit (about 79.3 billion U.S. dollars) in value added in 2025, accounting for 15.9 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), official data showed on Tuesday.

The industry grew 8.6 percent last year, up from 7.8 percent in 2024, driven by strong demand for internal tourism expenditure, which comprises inbound and domestic spending, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.

Retail trade accounted for the largest share of tourism industry value-added at 50.6 percent, followed by food and beverage at 16.4 percent.

Country-specific tourism-characteristic services, including health and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions activities, accounted for 13.1 percent, while accommodation contributed 9.3 percent.
