BAGHDAD, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibet al-Halbousi on Sunday reaffirmed Iraq's rejection of using its territory or airspace to threaten the security of Saudi Arabia.
According to a statement issued by his media office, al-Halbousi held a phone conversation with Speaker of the Saudi Shura Council Abdullah Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, during which he expressed his condemnation of the recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.
For his part, Al-Sheikh praised Iraq's rejection of any threat to the kingdom's security and stability, emphasizing the deep fraternal ties between the two countries.
The call came after Ali al-Zaidi, Iraq's prime minister and commander-in-chief of the armed forces, dismissed the Maysan Operations Commander on Saturday after authorities confirmed attacks targeting Saudi Arabia had been launched from a site in Maysan province in southern Iraq.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry said on Friday that several drones launched from Iraq targeted the East-West Pipeline, causing injuries and damage.
The ministry noted that at the request of the Iraqi prime minister, the kingdom had refrained from responding at this stage.
Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in the East-West Pipeline, which carries crude oil from its eastern fields to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. ■
