GAZA/JERUSALEM, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two Palestinians were killed and 13 others injured on Sunday in an Israeli airstrike targeting a vehicle in Gaza City, local sources and eyewitnesses said.
An Israeli drone fired a missile at a vehicle traveling in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood of western Gaza City, causing an explosion and setting the vehicle ablaze, according to the sources.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a brief statement that two people were killed and 13 others sustained injuries of varying severity.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strike, saying it had killed two Hamas militants.
The IDF identified the two as Hassan Ali Abu Nada and Abd al-Rahim Ahmad Khalil Khawa, alleging that they were members of the engineering unit of Hamas' military wing and had recently been involved in producing and developing weapons and advancing attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.
The strike came amid ongoing tensions in the Gaza Strip despite a fragile ceasefire, with Israeli military operations continuing to cause Palestinian casualties.
According to Gaza-based health authorities, at least 1,369 Palestinians have been killed and 4,627 others injured in Israeli strikes since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025.
Separately, Mohammed Abu Afash, director of medical relief in Gaza City, said on Sunday that the World Health Organization had informed 13 hospitals and seven health centers that fuel supplies would cease after Sept. 19 due to a lack of funding.
The development comes as Gaza's healthcare system faces severe shortages of generator fuel, medicines and medical supplies, Abu Afash said. ■
