MACAO, China, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Japan's Miwa Harimoto and Sweden's Truls Moregard respectively claimed women's singles and men's singles titles at the World Table Tennis Champions Macao on Sunday.
Harimoto, 18, found rhythm early against China's Chen Yi in the final clash to win the first two games 11-7, 11-7.
Chen, 22, then bounced back to take three straight games 11-9, 11-8, 13-11, after which top seed Harimoto rallied to seal the victory 11-9, 12-10.
"I was literally on the verge of losing, but I fought until the last point," said Harimoto. "My goal for this year was to win a title at a WTT Champions event or above. I didn't expect to win it three times at all. I really can't believe it myself."
On the men's side, Moregard controlled the pace over Hugo Calderano of Brazil to clinch victory in five games, 11-7, 11-9, 3-11, 11-8, 11-9.
"I am so happy with how I managed the whole week and pulled it through all the way. Both the WTT China Smash and the European Championships are important tournaments coming up. I want to perform as well as I can," said Moregard, 24. ■
