VENICE, Italy, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The 83rd Venice International Film Festival closed on Saturday on Venice's Lido, with Chinese VR short film The Pigeon Ring winning the Venice Immersive Grand Prize.
Directed by Zhang Yuqi and Tao Shixin, the 35-minute film follows a grandfather and granddaughter searching for a lost pigeon ring, using the story to explore memories and family ties in an ordinary Chinese family. The film's win marked a notable achievement for Chinese cinema at this year's festival.
At the closing ceremony, the Golden Lion for Best Film went to Danish director May el-Toukhy's Woman Unknown. South Korean director Lee Chang-dong won the Grand Jury Prize for Possible Love, while Ilya Khrzhanovsky won the Best Director award for DAU. Mathilde Arcel was named Best Actress for Woman Unknown, and John Malkovich won Best Actor for Wild Horse Nine.
The festival opened on Sept. 2 and featured several sections, including the main competition, Orizzonti and Venice Immersive. ■
