TEHRAN, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed, including three intelligence officers and four "terrorists," in an operation by Iran's security forces to smash a "professional terror team" in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan on Saturday.
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) made the announcement in a statement published on its official news outlet Sepah News, stressing that the joint operation was carried out by Iranian security, intelligence and police forces in Saravan County.
It added that a number of weapons and some amounts of ammunition and explosives were discovered from the hideout of the "terrorists," stressing that having suffered a "flagrant defeat on the military front, the United States and Israel, in an attempt to cover up their failures, have ordered terrorist groups to cause insecurity in Sistan and Baluchestan."
According to Sepah News, the dismantled team's members sought to carry out terrorist operations in Saravan.
Sistan and Baluchestan, a province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, has witnessed recurring clashes between Iranian security forces, militants, and drug traffickers. ■
