BEIRUT, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said Friday that the U.S.-brokered framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel has collapsed, warning that Israel could occupy additional Lebanese territory if it chose to do so, according to local newspaper Al-Joumhouria.
"The situation is dangerous, and all solutions are far away. The framework agreement has collapsed. If the Israelis want to occupy territory, they can do so," Berri told the newspaper.
Berri said he was not optimistic about a breakthrough in the coming days, citing ongoing killings, including those of children, as well as bulldozing and demolition.
The remarks came amid continued tensions along the Lebanese-Israeli border despite a framework agreement signed between Lebanon and Israel in late June. Israel says its operations are aimed at eliminating Hezbollah threats. ■
