U.S. diesel price hits new high amid supply disruptions
The U.S. national average price for diesel touched record 6.0556 U.S. dollars per gallon on Friday, surpassing the previous record of 5.9015 dollars set on Monday, according to the American Automobile Association.
Diesel prices have surged more than 74 percent over the last 9 months. In California, prices are even higher, with the average reaching 7.98 dollars per gallon.
DR Congo Ebola cases surpass 7,000, deaths near 3,400
The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has surpassed 7,000, with nearly 3,400 deaths reported, according to the latest government situation report released Friday.
As of Sept. 10, health authorities had recorded 7,022 confirmed cases and 3,398 deaths, putting the case fatality rate at 48.4 percent. A total of 1,671 patients have recovered.
12 killed, 20 injured in multi-vehicle crash in Russia
Twelve people were killed and 20 others injured in a collision involving a logging truck, a minibus and a passenger car in the Kholmogory District of Russia's Arkhangelsk region, the regional health ministry said Friday.
"Eight of the injured are in serious condition, three of them in extremely serious condition," the ministry said in a statement.
35 dead, 54 missing in Philippine vessel fire
Rescuers recovered 30 bodies on Friday from a ferry that caught fire in Palawan province of the Philippines on Wednesday, bringing the total death toll to 35, with 54 people still missing, said the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Footage released by the PCG shows the passenger ferry heavily charred, with ashes and burnt metal visible at the scene. Local media reported that 43 people have survived the fire.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Friday that he would resign on Sept. 25 or 26 and then campaign as an ordinary citizen for prime minister in the snap parliamentary elections due on Oct. 25.
Vucic made the remarks during a presentation of new measures to improve citizens' living standards, in response to a question from local media about when he planned to resign.■
