JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- A China-Saudi Arabia media seminar, focusing on the book "China's Governance Under Xi Jinping's Leadership" and marking the first anniversary of the Global Governance Initiative, was held here Thursday.
The event was co-hosted by the Consulate General of China in Jeddah, the Union of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) News Agencies, and Xinhua News Agency's Riyadh Bureau.
Representatives from the Saudi Ministry of Media, the Union of OIC News Agencies, and Saudi media outlets including "Al Eqtisadiah" and "Al Yaum" discussed topics including the contemporary relevance of the book, the first anniversary of the Global Governance Initiative, innovative approaches and practices in cross-cultural communication, and ways to deepen regular media cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia.
Chinese Consul General in Jeddah Yang Yi said in his remarks that the successful practice of Chinese modernization has provided developing countries with a new option for development, while Saudi Arabia is also exploring a development path suited to its own national conditions.
The exchange of experience and ideas between the two countries in areas such as national governance, green transition and the digital economy provides an inexhaustible source of stories for media, Yang said.
Achraf Hidri, director of international relations at the Union of OIC News Agencies, said he was honored to witness the launch of the Arabic edition of the first volume of China's Governance Under Xi Jinping's Leadership in Cairo, Egypt, in May.
He said the book offers an important window for Arab countries and the Islamic world to understand China's development philosophy and governance practices in the new era, helping readers better understand the achievements of the Chinese modernization and further promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations.
Hidri also expressed confidence that the media cooperation between Saudi Arabia and China could set an example for cooperation between the Islamic world and China.
Basim Bawazir, a journalist with Saudi newspaper "Al Eqtisadiah," said after the event that the successful seminar not only facilitated the exchange of experience between Saudi and Chinese media, but also enhanced communication and mutual understanding among media professionals from the two countries.
He said he looked forward to deeper media exchanges and cooperation between Saudi Arabia and China and expected a greater role for the media in promoting mutual understanding between the two peoples and advancing bilateral relations. ■
