TOKYO, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Recent heavy rain across Japan has damaged a total of 226 agricultural waterways, forest roads and other sites across 17 prefectures, farm minister Norikazu Suzuki said Friday.
As of 8 a.m. local time Friday, damage had been confirmed at 188 farmland and agricultural facility sites and 38 forest and forest road sites, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
Suzuki told reporters that the ministry will work closely with local authorities to quickly grasp the extent of the damage and take necessary measures.
Record amounts of rain have fallen in parts of Japan this month due to a stalled rain front and Typhoon Krovanh. ■
