YANGON, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Mandalay's Tada-U International Airport and its surrounding areas came under a drone attack on Thursday, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Friday.
The drones were intercepted by air defence monitoring systems, with no casualties reported and some airport flights temporarily suspended, the report added.
It said "terrorists" attacked the area with six FPV drones on Thursday afternoon, while security forces successfully intercepted the drones and conducted the harmless disposal of explosives carried by them.
No injuries were reported, and no damage was caused to aircraft or airport runways, the report said.
Myanmar Airways International said Thursday on social media that all international flights to and from Mandalay's Tada-U International Airport have been temporarily suspended, while domestic flights will be diverted to alternative airports.
According to the report, Myanmar authorities have condemned the attack, saying it constitutes a war crime. Security forces are cooperating with the public to investigate the incident. ■
