CANBERRA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The number of Australians working more than one job reached 1 million in June 2026, accounting for a record 6.9 percent of employed people, official data showed on Friday.
The number of multiple job-holders increased 6.6 percent from 984,200 in March, while 14.1 million people held a single job, according to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Women were more likely than men to work multiple jobs, with 7.7 percent of employed women holding more than one job, compared with 6.2 percent of men, the ABS said.
Workers aged 20-24 had the highest rate of multiple job-holding at 11.2 percent, while only 3.1 percent of employed people aged 65 and over held multiple jobs, statistics showed.
The multiple job-holding rate remained between 5 and 6 percent from 1994 to 2019 before falling sharply during the COVID-19 pandemic, the department said, adding that it has since risen to a record 6.9 percent and remained at or above 6.4 percent since June 2022.
In March, multiple job-holders worked an average of 39.3 hours per week across their jobs, compared with 34.8 hours for single job-holders, it said, adding that multiple job-holding was more common in regional areas than capital cities. ■
