KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Air quality across the northern Borneo state of Sarawak, Malaysia, remained poor on Friday, with a number of areas recording unhealthy readings.
The worst-hit areas included Serian, which recorded an air pollution index (API) of 202 as of 11 a.m. local time, while Samarahan near the state capital Kuching recorded 181, according to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System.
The neighboring state of Sabah also recorded poor air quality, with the capital Kota Kinabalu recording 149.
Meanwhile, in Peninsular Malaysia, the districts of Larkin (111) and Pasir Gudang (127) in Johor state recorded unhealthy readings.
According to the country's air quality rating, an API reading of zero to 50 is "good," 51 to 100 "moderate," 101 to 200 "unhealthy," 201 to 300 "very unhealthy," and 301 and above is "hazardous." ■
