BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.18 percent to 3,888.11 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.08 percent lower at 13,471.26 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 1.97 trillion yuan (about 291.07 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.65 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Military industry, high-speed copper cable connection, and film and television shares were among the leading gainers, while non-ferrous metals, agriculture, and oil and gas stocks were among the biggest decliners.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.49 percent to close at 3,322.04 points on Friday.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.45 percent lower on Friday at 1,817.68 points.
