JERUSALEM/GAZA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The commander of Hamas military wing's Khan Younis Brigade was killed in an Israeli strike on Thursday evening in the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli military and the Hamas military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades.

The Israeli military and domestic security agency Shin-Bet said in a joint statement on Friday that the Hamas commander, Muhammad Yazouri, was killed in an overnight strike in southern Gaza.

The statement said Yazouri was responsible for directing attacks against Israeli soldiers and rebuilding the brigade's forces, adding that two other Hamas militants were killed in the strike.

In a statement, the Al-Qassam Brigades confirmed Yazouri's death, saying he played a prominent role in planning Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

Also on Friday, Palestinian eyewitnesses said an Israeli drone struck the entrance of a shelter for displaced Palestinians in western Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killing one person and injuring 12 others.
