PHNOM PENH, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's foreign trade volume reached 50.68 billion U.S. dollars in the first eight months of 2026, marking a 20 percent year-on-year increase, according to an official report released Thursday.
Data from the General Department of Customs and Excise reveals that the kingdom's total exports amounted to 24.16 billion dollars during the January-August period, up 19.7 percent. Meanwhile, total imports climbed 20.7 percent to reach 26.52 billion dollars.
China, the United States, Vietnam, Japan, and Thailand remain the Southeast Asian nation's top five trading partners.
Cambodia's primary exports included garments, footwear, travel goods, bicycles, dry rubber, milled rice, bananas, cashew nuts, mangoes, longans and durians. On the import side, the country mainly brought in raw materials for garments, footwear, and travel goods, as well as petroleum, construction materials, automobiles, motorcycles, electronic products, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
Penn Sovicheat, a secretary of state and spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, attributed this robust trade growth to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, alongside Cambodia's bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) with China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.
"The significant growth reflects that Cambodia successfully maintains its key international markets, enhances its position in the global supply chain, and continues to earn the trust of international buyers," he told Xinhua. ■
