XIAMEN, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- When 121 electric buses rolled into Copiapó, Chile, last year, they helped turn the city into the first in Latin America to operate a fully electric public bus system.
Made by Chinese bus manufacturer King Long and shipped thousands of miles from Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province, the buses are a great example of how Chinese companies offer the world green solutions and help other countries shift to cleaner energy.
"Equipped with high-power motors, these buses can cope with steep slopes across Chile," said Yu Danyao, chief brand officer of Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry Co., Ltd.
King Long entered the Chilean market in 2007 and has since sold more than 1,500 buses in the country, Yu said. The company develops pure-electric, hybrid and hydrogen-fueled vehicles and adapts them to local conditions.
In Saudi Arabia, it has developed a battery thermal-management system designed to withstand high temperatures and dusty conditions. In Europe, it has introduced buses designed to reduce energy consumption and meet stringent environmental standards.
King Long's green vehicles have been sold to more than 150 countries and regions, with cumulative sales exceeding 160,000 units, according to the company.
Apart from King Long buses, exhibitors at the 26th China International Fair for Investment and Trade in Xiamen are also showcasing a range of green technologies, including smart energy-storage systems, water reclamation technology, and new power systems.
Tackling the climate crisis calls for joint global efforts and China boasts highly advanced green solutions, making bilateral cooperation in this field essential, said Janna Laine, counselor for public diplomacy and communication at the Embassy of Finland in Beijing. Finland is a guest country of honor at the fair this year.
The Finnish trade and economic delegation, comprising over 40 enterprises and institutions, pays particular attention to sectors including the circular economy, resource recycling, advanced manufacturing, industrial digitalization and healthcare, according to Sakari Puisto, minister of economic affairs of Finland.
"We look forward to concluding multiple business cooperation deals during this visit," said Puisto.
The fair, which runs from Tuesday to Friday, attracted delegations from 129 countries and regions, with 60 setting up exhibition areas. Its exhibition space expanded to 200,000 square meters from 120,000 square meters last year, according to the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce. The figures offer tangible signs of growing international interest in China as a partner in trade, investment and supply chain cooperation.
The energy storage sector is no exception. The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence data centers is generating huge demand for electricity and energy storage systems.
"For 24-hour high-load scenarios such as data centers, short-duration energy storage solutions cannot meet requirements. Long-duration energy storage has become standard for new-energy infrastructure," said Ding Changfu, senior product strategy manager with Xiamen Hithium Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd.
The company is investing 400 million euros in a battery and energy-storage production base in Spain, which is scheduled to begin operations next year.
By 2025, Hithium had sold its products in more than 40 countries and regions, while its order book extends into 2027, said Wang Pengcheng, the company's co-founder and president.
"Green and sustainable development represents an unprecedented global consensus and a profound industrial revolution," Wang said.
"As Chinese enterprises speed up global expansion, green investment has become a new highlight of external investment," said Zhou Xiaoyan, executive vice president and secretary-general of the China Council for International Investment Promotion.
From photovoltaic and wind-power equipment to lithium-ion batteries and new-energy vehicles, China is bringing its green development solutions to the world, Zhou said. ■
