BUDAPEST, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian Olympic javelin champion Miklos Nemeth visited Chinese teenage javelin star Yan Ziyi during a training session in Budapest on Tuesday and presented her with a javelin produced by his company.
According to a social media post by Yan's coach Lu Xiurong on Wednesday, Nemeth arrived at the training ground with two companions carrying javelins before greeting Yan and presenting her with one.
The 79-year-old Nemeth won the men's javelin title at the 1976 Montreal Olympics with a then world record of 94.58 meters. He later founded Javel-Inn Ltd. in 1987 and also worked as a coach with Czech javelin great Jan Zelezny.
The encounter came just days after the 18-year-old Chinese capped a perfect Diamond League season by winning the women's final in Brussels with a meeting record of 68.42m.
Yan won all five of her Diamond League appearances this season and became the youngest woman in history to win a Diamond Trophy.
She will next compete at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, with the women's javelin final scheduled for Saturday evening at the National Athletics Centre.
The Ultimate Championship, running from September 11 to 13, features 28 events and a record 10-million-U.S.-dollar prize purse, with each individual champion receiving 150,000 dollars. ■
