LONDON, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- A man was shot by police on Tuesday after threatening a woman with a knife in Luton, a town about 50 km north of London, Britain's Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said on Wednesday.
The man was seriously injured and taken to hospital with "life-changing injuries," and the woman was also taken to hospital with stab wounds, according to the independent police watchdog in England and Wales.
The woman's condition is not understood to be life-threatening, the IOPC added.
"We can confirm at this stage that all the officers involved are being treated as witnesses because there is no indication they may have breached police professional standards or committed a criminal offence," said IOPC Director of Engagement Emily Barry. However, the officer did not provide a reason for the stabbing. ■
