HANOI, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's computer, electronic products, mobile phones and components sector recorded about 262 billion U.S. dollars in total trade turnover in the first eight months of this year, local daily Voice of Vietnam reported Tuesday.
Of the total, exports reached about 101 billion dollars, up 51 percent year on year, while imports stood at approximately 161 billion dollars, rising 68 percent, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Exports of phone components surged to nearly 12 billion dollars, reflecting Vietnam's gradual expansion into component manufacturing rather than focusing solely on assembly, the report said.
The sector recorded a trade deficit of about 60 billion dollars during the period, with the deficit concentrated mainly in imported input components such as integrated circuits, memory chips, processors, displays and circuit boards, the report added. ■
