FREETOWN, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The 27th Chinese medical team has provided more than 300 free medical consultations during a joint community health outreach at Wilberforce Health Center in Freetown under China's "100 Medical Teams in 1,000 Villages" program.
The half-day outreach on Saturday brought together a multidisciplinary team of Chinese and Sierra Leonean healthcare professionals to provide services in internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), ophthalmology and ear, nose and throat (ENT).
A joint triage desk operated by Chinese doctors and local nursing staff registered patients, checked blood pressure, and coordinated clinical services.
Specialists assessed and treated patients with hypertension, gastrointestinal and infectious conditions, osteoarthritis, occupational strains and other surgical complaints, while providing medication and health advice.
Gynecology consultations included clinical examinations and health counseling. ENT specialists screened patients for conditions including otitis media and tonsillitis, while ophthalmology services focused on blurred vision and potentially sight-threatening conditions requiring referral.
At the TCM clinic, doctors provided acupuncture and other treatments to residents suffering from chronic pain.
Local healthcare workers and volunteers supported patient registration, triage and interpretation throughout the outreach.
Osman Kamar, officer-in-charge of Wilberforce Health Center, expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as a tangible contribution to community health and calling for regular future visits by the Chinese medical team. ■
