MADRID, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Movistar's Enric Mas strengthened his lead in the Vuelta a Espana after the 14th stage on Saturday.
Marco Brenner of Tudor Pro Cycling Team won the stage, with the overall favorites finishing over four minutes behind him.
Mas' closest rival, Primoz Roglic of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, struggled in the heat of the final climb of the stage between Jaen and Sierra de la Pandera, while Felix Gall moved into second place in the overall standings, two minutes and six seconds behind Mas.
Early in the stage, a group of 44 riders formed a breakaway, with Santiago Buitrago of Bahrain Victorious again on the hunt for points to claim the 'mountains' jersey for the best climber.
The main peloton, containing the overall favorites, was happy to allow a break, which had no riders challenging for the overall lead, to go up the road on another day with temperatures well above 35 degrees centigrade.
Sunday's 15th stage will finish in Cordoba. ■
