SHENZHEN, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- World No. 1 An Se-young won a third straight China Masters title on Sunday, while Jason Gunawan from Hong Kong, China emerged as the tournament's biggest surprise by claiming the men's singles crown in his first appearance at a BWF World Tour Super 750 event.
Top-seeded An, the reigning Olympic and world champion from South Korea, beat Japan's Tomoka Miyazaki 21-17, 21-6 in the women's singles final.
The victory extended An's winning streak to 33 matches. She has now won 49 of her 50 matches this season, with her only defeat coming against China's Wang Zhiyi in the All England final in March.
An did not drop a game throughout the tournament, following up her world title last month with another dominant performance in Shenzhen. She also became the first player to win the China Masters three consecutive times.
Gunawan, ranked 32nd in the world, beat fellow Hong Kong, China player Lee Cheuk Yiu 21-9, 21-16 in the men's singles final.
The 22-year-old entered the tournament as the first alternate and reached the final after beating Japan's Koki Watanabe, world No. 1 Jonatan Christie of Indonesia, defending champion Weng Hongyang of China, and fifth seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark.
The result made Gunawan the first Hong Kong, China player to win a BWF World Tour Super 750 or higher-level singles title. It was also the first time Hong Kong, China players had occupied both places in a China Masters men's singles final.
In doubles, China's Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping won the mixed doubles title by beating Malaysia's Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing 21-19, 21-16.
Japan's Sumire Nakade and Miyu Takahashi defeated China's Bao Lijing and Cao Zihan 21-18, 21-18 in the women's doubles final, while India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty came from a game down to beat China's He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu 11-21, 21-13, 21-17 in the men's doubles final. ■
