BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Argentina's Foreign Ministry has initiated sanction proceedings against 45 entities and individuals allegedly involved in hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation activities in the Malvinas Islands, the Presidency said Friday.
The proceedings will target companies allegedly carrying out illegitimate hydrocarbon activities on its continental shelf, as well as their shareholders and service providers, the statement said.
It said the announced proceedings were a message that Argentina "will never renounce its sovereignty" over the islands.
In a televised address, Argentine President Javier Milei said Argentina's position was clear and that the islands had been part of its territory since the country's origins.
Argentina and Britain fought a war over the islands from April 2 to June 14, 1982. ■
