JERUSALEM, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Border Police officers shot and killed a 33-year-old Palestinian man in East Jerusalem early Friday morning, the Israel Police said in a statement.
The man was shot after he attempted to stab the officers, according to the statement.
Palestine's official news agency WAFA reported that the man was shot near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem's Old City.
It added that Israeli forces subsequently reinforced their presence around the gate and throughout the surrounding Old City area, imposing a military cordon and tightening restrictions that made it difficult for Palestinians to reach the site for dawn prayers.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said in a statement that it had completed a 48-hour operation in Nablus and nearby villages in the West Bank, adding that it had arrested more than 10 wanted persons, destroyed more than 30 weapons-making lathes, and confiscated rifles, pistols and ammunition. ■
