Trump says U.S. ready for more Iran strikes, denies plans to rename Hormuz Strait after himself
The U.S. military is prepared to launch more strikes on Iran "any time we want," U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday.
"It was a very heavy attack last night, and we're prepared to do another one any time we want," Trump told reporters at the White House.
The U.S. military "took out all of the new equipment that they tried to build along the Strait of Hormuz," said Trump.
18 killed, 108 wounded in latest U.S. strikes against Iran: health minister
Iran's Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarghandi said on Wednesday that 18 people were killed and 108 others wounded in overnight strikes by the United States against the country, according to a statement published on the website of the Iranian president's office.
In a separate statement, Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned in the strongest terms the latest U.S. "acts of aggression" against the country, highlighting Iran's determination to "decisively" defend its independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It said the U.S. government on Tuesday night once again violated Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity and attacked several civilian places and service infrastructure, killing and wounding a number of Iranian citizens and damaging public and private properties.
1,204 dead, 4,216 missing in Nepal mudslide: disaster authority
The death toll from the devastating mudslide in Nepal has risen to 1,204, with 4,216 people still missing as of 6 p.m. local time on Wednesday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
A total of 301 people have been injured, while 21,314 security personnel have been mobilized for search, rescue and relief operations, the authority said.
83rd Venice International Film Festival kicks off
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival opened Wednesday on Lido island in Venice, Italy, with 21 films competing for the Golden Lion for Best Film.
The international jury for the competition is chaired by U.S. actress and director Maggie Gyllenhaal, with director Johnnie To from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region among its members.
At the opening ceremony, U.S. actor, director and producer George Clooney received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.■
